The CrystalTek Definition of Green Chemicals

We know that everyone these days is “claiming the green” and lots of people wonder what “green” really means. Since there’s no universal definition, we wanted to take a moment to clarify our green chemical pledge and perspective.

All chemicals in the United States are rated by an HMIS scale for Health, Flammability, and Reactivity. Ratings are 0-4 with 0 being the most benign and 4 the highest hazard. All CrystalTek chemicals will carry ratings of 1, 1, 0 or better. A “1” rating in health is similar to bath soap. It stings if it gets into your eyes, shouldn’t be left overly long on the skin, and is not to be directly inhaled. A "1" rating for flammability is non-flammable and carries no shipping alerts. A "0" rating for reactivity is non-reactive and carries no shipping alerts.
